Class Q- what is it?

Class Q Permitted Development allows the change of use of agricultural buildings to residential. It allows the conversion of up to five dwellings via a prior approval application. Class Q applies to all types of agricultural building, including traditional stone and modern portal frame structures.

Ideally to benefit from Class Q the building should have:

  • At least three sides
  • A complete roof
  • A 'solid' or concrete floor and;
  • Is capable of conversion

Step 1 - Initial Consultation

From initial enquiry our team will review the site to consider its planning potential. If the building has Class Q potential, we will arrange a site visit with you to discuss further.

Step 2 - Planning & Marketing Appraisal

We will consider and advise on planning strategy and number of dwellings to achieve best value.

Step 3 - Planning Process

We will guide you through the planning process liaising with the local authority until the result is over the line.

Step 4 - Site Sale

Following approval the site would be taken to the open market to achieve best value.
