Charity Golf Day 2023

Charity Golf Day 2023

General George F. White 11th July 2023

The third annual charity golf day held by George F. White and this year again hosted at Linden Hall Hotel, Golf and Spa was the most successful to date raising a four figure sum for this year's charity The Country Trust as well as generating a number of vital leads for them to host events to assist disadvantaged children.

The Country Trust is the UK's leading national educational charity connecting children from areas of high social and economic disadvantage with the land that sustains us all. Sue Thompson who was present during the event has already confirmed that from the various conversations she had over the day that several farmers have already committed to assisting the charity going forward as hosts for farm tours.

In 2023 as well as the ongoing support of Linden Hall we were joined by an increasing number of sponsors who of course we would like to thank for their support without which the event simply wouldn't be what it was:

Refreshment Sponsors:

- Turnbulls Northumbrian Food - sponsors of the food on the Halfway Hut
- Muckle LLP - sponsors of the drinks on the Halfway Hut
- Ryecroft Glenton - sponsors of the breakfast

On Course Prize Sponsors:

EMG Solicitors (Nearest the Pin)

Individual Hole Sponsors:

- R Rutherford & Sons TMC Ltd
- DNO Scott & Son
- Hay & Kilner
- TM Lough & Son
- Marlish Water
- Moore Bros The Shaw Ltd
- Grain Co Ltd

Several individuals dug into their own pockets to provide individual prizes alongside several regional businesses and we thank them all collectively for their generous donations and of course to those who equally dug deep on the day to buy tickets.

The Golf

With a record number of team entries and a significant improvement on last year's weather, the teams gathered and teed off early on Friday morning following breakfast kindly sponsored by Ryecroft Glenton.

Amongst the teams were many familiar faces, some having taken part in both previous events, and many new entrants looking to get their names onto the trophy. 'Encouraged' by Tim Michie on the first tee the teams made their way around the first nine to reach the Half Way Hut where they could take respite from the blazing sun and enjoy a fantastic spread of refreshments laid on by the generosity of Turnbull's Northumbrian Food and Muckle LLP.

The first teams back returned to the Half Way Hut to nervously await the incoming scores which were understandably the key topic for discussion as the day progressed. Following many hours of sunshine, some fine food and plenty of refreshing drinks the time came for the presentations hotly followed by the always entertaining raffle draw:

1st Place - Callum Burn, Hamish Burn, Scott Atkinson & James Cowan (unnamed team)

2nd Place - H Bayston, S Lodge, M Lodge & C Nesbitt (Bayston Transport)

3rd Place - L Wynne, M Nealings, T Howells & P Bremner (Rosie Golf Society 2)

Nearest the Pin - Peter Gordon

Longest Drive (female) - Jude Furness

Longest Drive (male) - Graham Stephenson
