In a bid to support the next generation of farmers, The Lartington Estate, is launching an exciting initiative to give a new entrant to farming their first big break. An opportunity for a Five Year Farm Business Tenancy to run a livestock enterprise on an Area of grassland of 166.9 acres (67.54 ha) at Home Farm, Lartington. The tenancy, managed by GFW, is located just outside of Barnard Castle, including a newly built two bedroom Stone Farmhouse at Home Farm, Pasture and Meadow Land amounting to c.167 acres, and a mix of new build and older agricultural buildings, including a former Dairy and Hay Barn.
The initiative is designed for individuals who are new to farming and who would typically face barriers when competing for traditional tenancies, such as a lack of proven experience, barriers to accessing finance or risk aversion from landlords.
The Estate envisions this programme as a stepping stone, providing the tools and experience needed to establish a farming career. By the end of the five years, tenants will ideally have built the skills, confidence, and credentials to apply for other farm tenancies, furthering their journey in the industry.
Carolyn Milburn, Partner at GFW and Manager of The Lartington Estate, added: “This is a wonderful initiative that will give aspiring farmers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience and develop their skills in a supportive environment. By providing access to resources and mentorship, we hope to break down some of the barriers that prevent new entrants from getting started in farming. It's about creating a pathway for the next generation to thrive in the industry.”
