FIVE MINUTES WITH SALLY HART, MANAGING DIRECTOR

General GFW 8th March 2023

Today is International Women’s Day, and in order to celebrate, we sat down with our Managing Director, Sally Hart, to find out more about what International Women’s Day means to her and to get some practical advice for the next generation of women entering the industry.

WHAT DOES INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY MEAN TO YOU?

When I started working at George F. White, it was a very male dominated industry, but regardless of whether it was a male dominated or not, I've worked really hard to get to where I am now. I’m proud of that. To me, International Women’s Day celebrates the achievements of all women, whether that be 50 years ago, or today, and no matter how big or how small. To me it's a platform to inspire the next generation of women.

WHAT'S THE KEY TO SUCCESS IN BUSINESS?

Aside from ensuring that the product or service that you're offering is relevant and viable, it all comes down to your team. We pride ourselves on our commitment to our team, and the value they bring to our clients.

HOW HAVE YOU ENSURED YOUR BUSINESS HAS STAYED RELEVANT?

We're constantly innovating our business and pushing ourselves to do more and to evolve. We listen to the feedback from our clients, strive to do better and achieve more to get them the best success. Growing our multi-discipline team has been fundamental to staying relevant. No matter the job, there's very little that our team cannot do to solve a problem.

WHAT'S THE BEST LESSON YOU HAVE LEARNT SINCE STARTING YOUR OWN BUSINESS?

That good can always come out of challenging times. Every business has its challenges, whether that be personal to that business, or a challenge in the business community, such as Brexit, or the pandemic. The past three years have been a rollercoaster; however, we've learnt some valuable lessons and have been able to make effective and efficient changes that have allowed us to adapt, both at short notice and in our strategic planning.

WHAT'S YOUR KEY PIECE OF ADVICE TO WOMEN ENTERING THE PROPERTY INDUSTRY IN 2023?

The property industry has changed considerably over the past 10 years, for the better! It's incredible to see so many women championing an industry that was so typically dominated by men. My advice is to look to those that have achieved so much, but also to be inspired by your own achievements! Be yourself, be heard and don’t be afraid of failures.
